Do you have an intake or anything done to the car?

if so... when you pulled off the sensors for the intake did you TOUCH the plugs or anything?

if not... bring it to the dealer.

AEM CAI... I cleand the MAF with electrical cleaner spray after the CEL went on, i might have contaminated it, but its still there.... some say it might be MAF gone bad or fuel pressure, leak on the CAI, Ground on the throtle body, dirty throtle body, placement of MAF..etc...etc... i cant take it to the dealership with the AEM on due to not a honda part.... i dunno if the costom exhaust pipe did efect that too... 2.25...

Take the time to replace the OEM parts, and see if the CEL goes away. If not, take it in. It'll be a lot better than breaking other parts while haphazardly trying ot figure this out.

That is not a solution. The car requires 91 octane, all your doing is letting the car see knock and reduce performance to eliminate the lean condition. So basicly you wasted the money you spent on the intake to gain power.

You are right.. performance has dropped.. untill then i need to know if the vafc-2 will work on the new civic r18, so i can go back to 91 then adjust a/f...its only temp..

You won't have the ability to adjust the input voltage of the MAF and MAP with the VAFC. Even if you could the ECM/PCM would try and correct and make matters worse.

Reflash may be the only answer. Maybe even a dealer reflash with the HDS and a fresh idle learn may adjust for the new MAF voltage. I'd also double check the intake for leaks from the MAF sensor to the throttle body.

Reflashing the ECU is not going to fix your problem. Put the OEM intake back on take it to the dealer, and have them fix it, or clear the code; whichever they deem necessary. Once that is done make sure your are running premium if you have an Si, and carefully reinstall you CAI. It should not throw a check engine light if done properly.

Just like when people buy a Comptech SS because they think it is going to make the crunching sound in their tranny go away. Do not attempt to fix problems with aftermarket performance parts, you will only make matters worse.

Many people are having the same issues with the AEM. If it's not a defective part then a reflash to compensate for higher MAF voltage due to increased air flow could be the answer.

Now that the can of worms has been opened, would this correct a problem, or just cover up an existing one. When you install an AEM CAI, are you really getting more air, or is it just a better quality of air you are getting?

MAF's see air and send signals back to the ECU as voltage. The new Civics also have a MAP and see the manifold pressure. When the ECU more flow than deemed acceptable it will throw a code as it thinks there is a leak in the intake between the MAF and TB. Reflash the ECU to compensate for the extra air and it will benfit from the intake and make more power.

It's not a can of worms, it's just adapting to newer technology when developing aftermarket parts.

Not trying to be a pain in the ****, but I am a tech, and in my opinion reflashing the ecu isn't going to fix, just putting a band-aid over the problem. But then again, maybe I am the wrong who is wrong.

As a tech you should know on the new ECM/PCM some items that are changed on the car require a reflash and to do the idle learn procedure. That's not a band aid, that is the way it is designed to work so the ECM/PCM can adjust to new parts or work done to the car.

I understand reflashes for a set of aggressive cams, but for a CAI... Thats going a little over board, but maybe I am wrong.

UM, FYI, the R18 does not require 91+ octane gas as stated before.... It only requires regular gas. Even with a CAI.

Or did I miss something?
