2008 Civic won't start quickly
2008 Honda Civic coupe. I have to hold the key on for about 2 minutes or so before the car will start. At that point, it starts like you had just turned the key over. When I turn the key to the starting position, the dash lights up and radio comes on and everything is just fine. Thinking it was a battery issue, I put a new one in. This only happens when the vehicle sits for a while. First thing in the morning and at lunch time. If I am driving around (store to store, etc.), it doesn't happen at all. Starts just fine. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is? Thank you, Andie

Re: 2008 Civic won't start quickly
Are you cranking the starter for the entire two minutes? The first place I would look after checking the battery terminals would be the closest grounding point and then the leads coming off the alternator and running to the starter. It sounds to me like your engine control module is failing or not getting a signal from your battery that there is enough power to crank the engine. I am probably wrong here, but the triad of power comes to mind... fuel, fire, air...

Re: 2008 Civic won't start quickly
I have a similar issue with my 2010 Honda Civic LX. My problem is when I try to start it, it seems like the starter is not getting enough current to turn the starter at first. The dash lights flicker, the starter relay clicks, and then it will slowly turn over until it starts. Sometimes I have to turn the key off and back on before it will start. I have replaced the battery, starter, main fuse, starter cutoff relay, and have checked and cleaned the grounds. I am at my wit's end.

the oem starters on these models are notoriously bad, where did you get your replacement ?
ive gone 105k extra on my Pure Energy reman when the original was bad already at 90k
if you got an aftermarket alarm it could have a bad ignition kill module, especially if its a Viper or DEA

I had a interment starter issue with mine a while back. Original starter too. I bought a ebay rebuild kit for it and it has been working fine ever since. But some of the problems you guys have are head scratchers.

Re: 2008 Civic won't start quickly
It’s just odd that this started out of nowhere a few weeks ago. That prompted me to change the starter, but nothing changed. It just seems like something is impeding the current to the starter. If I turn off radio and heater before I try to start it, it starts quicker...obviously more current available.
Could it be the positive battery cable?
Also, no after market alarm.
