2006 civic
We bought this car used, my daughter chose it, from an individual, found out later they had tried to repair a crack, it was leaking, long story short, car overheated on the freeway, could have been a lot worse, but it def. needs a new engine (dipstick melted off!)
I would like to have a discussion about the value of this repair, SHOULD we repair it? what are the caveats? Is there another thread I could be directed to that covers these cars, since I know it was a known issue in the 2006-2008 civics. Thanks.

The R18 water pipe block crack.
I believe it is worth repair, not all R18 blocks are bad, it's a hit or miss kind of thing. If you had not overheated it (to the point of melting the oil dipstick tube) I would say you only need to source a new block. At this point, I think you should find a good running R18 engine (long block) to replace it. This will make life much easier.
I am also assuming you are going to do the work yourself if not, the cost is likely equal to what you paid for the car and may not be worth it to you.

My local shop has quoted me 1500 to do the work. I can source my own engine. The car was 4500 in Jan. It now has 93000 miles on it. I still think I’ll get it repaired so we can sell it for something. As opposed to nothing. They keep value pretty well. I do know it will be over 3000 when all is said and done. #stillonfence. #imamomma. #yallkeepcommenting. 🤗
btw Honda dealership wants 7500. American Honda says they could possibly split that with me. 👀

1500 seems a bit high for the work. But these engines are not easy to remove through the top. Gotta drop the sub-frame.
If the body is in good shape I would get it fixed and keep it or sell it.

Haha. Dealership wants 7500 for brand new stuff My only hope now is that American Honda will honor 50% of extended warranty that everyone got. My car was purchased 12 years ago originally and the added warranty was up to 10 years. They have said they may “split” cost. Ugh.
