does the lowered rpms for vtech engagement affect overall speed? 1/4 mile? or 0-60? and if so, by how much?
or is it just more hp earlier?

off the top of my head, more HP earlier should increase the rev speed and therefor reduce 1/4 and 0-60 times, correct?

also, this may be a dumb question, but it seems from dyno charts that I never paid close attention to, but sort of, that honda tuned the car originally to have the most power exactly at the shift point from 8000 (6200 rpms or whatever it is). Since the vtech is changed to start at 4500 or whatever the person chooses, does this negatively affect the shift points? I would think hondata would only make changes to increase power/ acceleration. But it's just a speculation.. Anyone?

1) VTEC

2) if tuned correctly the early vtec engagement has been known to increase mid range and overall power so yes this can affect 1/4 miles times.

it can negatively affect it if the person tuning doesn't know what they're doing.

hondata is responsible for providing the flashpro....the results of using flashpro are a direct reflection of the user....not hondata.

kentagious, you dont need a wide band but it would be highly recommended. tuning without that is like tuning in the blind.

you need a wideband to tune either setup. you can't just change fuel and timing maps without reading AF ratios from a proper wideband.

where does FP get these readings from? are SI's equiped with stock wideband O2 sensors...I'm not sure. if so then you are correct and you don't need a wideband assuming the SI has stock wideband sensors.

either way you need a wideband for proper tuning.

Ok, but is it going to make a big difference if i'm running just bolt ons? I would think that would be the way to go when I buy my Super Charger...

im guessing its getting its readings from the sensor. because on fp, it tells you your af ratio real-time. i can make a video to show it also.

They have a factory wide band 02 sensor. But if you have FI it's nice to have a gauge in the car so you can see if it goes lean and then you can back off.

Aftermarket wideband sensors read better than the stock one down in the richer areas i.e. 10's and 11's. N/A cars never run as rich so the factory wideband is not best suited for reading turbo a/f's when in boost tho. When you buy a wideband gauge they usually come with a sensor. I thought I read somewhere that the factory wideband is only accurate down to the 12's but aftermarket one's will read 10-20 AFR

so this would be the correct order with mods?
1. i/h/e
2. recalibrate with flashpro
3. tuner to fine tune

or a tuner isnt needed but highly recommended?

you can tune yourself if you know what you're doing.

Is Flashpro only worth it if you are going to upgrade i/h/e first?

FP is worth it if you decided to upgrade anything that will alter the performance of the car. The factory tunes on the FP are fine but yes youll will yeild slightly higher gains with a custom tune.

I may be an Si owner soon; wanted to get a feel for what's out there these days.

I want to eventually raise the performance from stock form, but not change the overall driving experience that much. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from getting hassled all the time by cops and haters when I had my ITR, so I'm not sure I want to go the "louder" route...just a little racier.

well this gen of honda can run no cats at all with header and catback and remain very quiet and produce great numbers.

If you are to changeing the performance and you get it tuned or use a base tune from the FP you will greatly increase the fun and enjoyablilty in driving your car.

Let's just say someone were to use the FP on a totally stock Si motor, no mods of any kind and using the base tune. What could you realistically expect?

you'd atleast be able to change the i-vtec crossover and what you can rev to with the clutch pressed in.
