Yet another starting issue
2001 Honda Civic 1.7 156k miles
Sooooo in the parking lot at work before I was able to turn the key off, the car was nice enough to shut itself off...it made a brief shake, all the lights came on and it shut off.. it cranks but won't turn over. No dimming lights, radio works , window works. Also Key fob works and beeps. Checked fuel pump fuse and swapped out the relay. The relay clicks before and after the swap out. Was told by the previous owner the timing belt was changed for regular maintenance at 100k or 90k. I took the back seat out and I'm not hearing the fuel pump, although with the key chime it's kinda hard. I placed my hand over the pump and turned the key didn't feel anything. Not sure if I should be be able to feel anything to begin with tho....like the pump turning on or whatever. So I'm thinking it's the pump ( and praying not the timing belt) but obviously don't want to just throw money at parts. Any thoughts guys? Thank you!

You can test fuel pressure to be certain. Rent the tool at a parts store if they are available. It should be around 44 psi and drop to about 20 psi after half an hour. If anyone knows the exact pressures please post.

Ok so I thought of something else. I took out the back seat and unplugged the fuel line going into the pump. Under that now open port from the pump that would normally go to the fuel line, I placed a cup and tried to start the car. No fuel went into the cup meaning the fuel pump didn't pump anything out. This would be correct right? Aka pump is bad?

I can hear my fuel pump from outside the car. Try putting a screwdriver on the top and put the handle to your ear, and have someone turn the ignition on.

There may be something else preventing the fuel pump from turning on though I don't know what. If you are in phoenix I have extra that I can lend you for testing purposes.

When you turn the key, does the green mobilizer light in the instrument panel flash five times then turn off or does it keep flashing? The light is a green in the shape of a key.

I would also highly recommend checking the timing belt. This is something you can visually inspect before you start throwing parts at the car, and you only have to take the valve cover off, ez. I had a timing belt fail after only 40k miles on it because it was a cheapo belt, lucky for me the engine survived.

So first off thanks too all who've replied! I appreciate it. So i went ahead and tried to take the pump out and noticed the fuel filter arms detached from the assembly some how i dont know..., putting stress on a wire because the pump was just hanging and from what I gathered the wire snapped after just hanging with no support from the arms. Atleast that's what I THINK happend unless I detached the wire when I pulled it out. I was gentle pulling it out so I don't think I did but it is possible. I ordered the new pump and will have an answer tomorrow.

Awesome you figured it out. Mine would turn on sometimes and others it wouldn't. Had me chasing my tail for a while. The pressures were fine. Swapped it out with the one in my wife's car and it worked perfect. Her car worked fine for a while then started acting up.
Where re did you get you pump? Which did you get and how much?

I went with the Spectra fuel pump assembly for 120 at rock auto. Not exactly OEM but hey it's a work car and it got the job done lol. The same part was 220 at auto zone so it can't be that bad I hope lol... i made sure to make note of the noise it makes before i start up so if it happened again and I don't hear it I know its bad... when it went bad I was like yeah I don't hear anything but I never really paid attention to IF I heard anything when it was good lol

Cool. It was nice and easy although I kinda made a minor mistake I tucked that black wire behind the floater like the directions said but didn't realize the whole wire was suppose to tuck in as you slide the floater down. Tried to push it back out to hide the wire but was afraid of breaking it lol it's all good tho ..Really glad it was an easy repair. Thanks for all the replies I'm sure I'll be back with more questions knock on wood haha.oh btw are you experienced in electric of this car at all?

Re: Yet another starting issue
My guess is either their is a short in the wiring or the motors are bad. I've never seen this happen but maybe the window regulators got so jammed up that the motor draws too much current.
Open up a door panel and check it out. Usually its the window regulator that breaks, but it won't blow a fuse. It just makes a grinding noise.
