Default Timing belt or chain on a 2002?

Does the D17 from a 2002 EX have a timing chain or belt?

belt. and if you have about 60-80,000 on the car, GET IT CHECKED!!!! I lost my gsx eclipse to stupidity like not changing it. So take my advice, get it changed. you can loose a whole motor due to not doing it.

doesnt the owners manual recommend the change at 100k miles?

yes, but remember, your warranty doesnt cover up there, so it will never hurt to periodically have it checked, itll suck when youre coming up on 100k and it snaps like mine did. my gsx was at 97500 when it broke. Just get it checked out.

pop the valve cover, and lift up and down on the belt, if it moves excessively, or has teeth worn beyond normal, or missing alltogether its time to fix it.
