Removal of 2001 civic EX sunroof mechanicals for more headroom
Just bought a 2001 civic EX to replace my 1996 civic LX and the difference in headroom bothers me (a lot) more than I thought it would. Any way to modify (replace with lower profile seat, or remove sunroom mechanicals and change headliner worth considering. I was gonna just swap out my 96 front seat but the bolts don't look they will line up easily.

Hello, headroom.
all 7th gens suffer from headroom issues. Easiest way would be a lower seat, aftermarket preferably

You would need to find a way to safely seal up the hole left from not having the sunroof. Most likely weld a sheet of metal in place.
Don't certain SRS systems tie into the seat belt buckle somehow? Worth considering if you're swapping seats.
Completely off topic, since you have a 2001 please get your VIN checked for the airbag recall. It could save your life. I remember following the Honda-Tech thread from 2008 that helped lead to the recall, where this dude's 2001 Civic airbag exploded and he documented everything on here.

Yeah, i was going to try to swap seat out from my 96. Slightly lowe profile. Floor bolts do not quite lineup. Any recommendations on aftermarket sites?

Any aftermarket seat yo get is going to be racing oriented, on racing rails, which by design will be squat lower. You'd want to get quality name brand seats like bride, recarro, sparco etc. and that will add up fast. The most cose effective IMO is to find a seat you like and weld 7th gen rails to the frame. Any seat will fit that way, once saw EP3 seats in a C10 lol

Thanks for the heads up on the recall. I will look into it. You are also right there is a SRS related wiring clip under the seat as well as the seat belt sensor clip. I would need to make sure everything is compatible with any seat swap.
