Re: Purple royal
I've had it on my 228k+ mile 01 Civic LX with no problems. Sounds good, looks good, feels good, it must be good. I prefer Mobil 1 10w30 Extended Performance/High Mileage (fully synthetic) with a Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter. Higher octane gas (i.e. Chevron 91) should help you keep your internals clean. A bit more expensive but worth it I would say.

Re: Purple royal
I have i believe around 112k miles? Ive used sea foam and lucas on my civic. I try to keep internals as clean as possible. And yea I've used fully synthetic oil b4. believe it was mobil too.

Re: Purple royal
One of my concerns is to try to keep my engine internals very clean. I stay away from any additives that claim to clean a bunch of crap from your engine. I also stay away from "transmission flush/coolant flush" but thats another topic. I trust quality higher octane gas (like chevron and shell only when chevron is not around) and mobil 1 synthetic fluids. By the way, my car has double the miles yours has and my car is clean as new, if you keep up with your regular tune ups and keep using quality fluids on your engine, you should be fine. It might be a little 2 or 3 extra bucks, but it will take care of you.

Re: Purple royal
Ya good point, it's the least we can do since we can't add anything to d17's to make them considerably faster without turbo. But has anyone used seafoam or lucas? Lucas works really good, and I haven't noticed much change after the seafoam treatment. I use seafoam always b4 an oil change.
And yea I've been in the habit of using high octane gasses from shell too. No more cheap gas stations for me.

Re: Purple royal
1. High octane does absolutely nothing for you. Doesn't burn cleaner, doesn't have less crap in it. 87 octane from shell will keep your engine as clean as their 93 octane. High octane only resists detonating before the spark plug fires.
2. Synthetic oil is a good investment for high mileage cars, but stay away from Royal Purple. It is 'too good' of an oil. It's great for race cars who change oil every race, but bad for street cars. When it gets hot, it is like water. And when it's that thin, it doesn't provide the lubrication that it needs to to keep your engine from wearing out.

Higher octane "might" not help keep your engine clean (its a matter of personal choice or someone might need it for their turbo setup) but the TOP TIER gas will defenitely help.

Re: Purple royal
As for royal purple.. I will never use the stuff. One of the customers at the shop I work at has used it for 50k miles in his s2000. He is an older guy and never beats on it on a regular basis. i.e. never revs too high without it being warmed up, no 1-5th gear pulls etc. He has been coming in to the shop to have his maintenance done for this 50k miles, always religiously on time. His motor blew up at 85k miles. It's now being rebuilt with a 2.4L stroker motor with a big turbo.. but that's another story. Use it if you want..

Re: Purple royal
Royal Purple is fine. It makes a noticeable difference, even between Mobil 1 synthetic to Royal Purple.
Royal Purple makes many types of oil, including racing oil.
You can use 5w20 on your civic and change it out every 7.5k

I would stick to Mobil 1 if I were you and for gas QUICKTRIP FTW! Plus they have awesome drinks/sandwiches for the driver lol.

Re: Purple royal
Ya, but tempting. Heard alot of hype from purple royal. But like other people said, the stuff might not be thick enough. thats what she said. I think i'm going to risk it and put it in. I'll let everyone know how it goes and if theres any difference.

Re: Purple royal
If you are determined to use royal purple.. at least use heavier weight.. 5w30 at the very minimum. Honestly.. either mobile 1 or castrol or Q or any other full synthetic will work just fine and doesn't cost $9 a quart.

Re: Purple royal
ok,
all this talk about this or that oil being good/bad is pointless unless there's actual evidence provided to support the claims. i'll start believing people when i see some used oil analysis results.

Re: Purple royal
I'm just curious if theres a noticeable difference for the price I'm paying. I'm going to see if it's worth the extra $10-$12 bucks for it.
