d17 d16?
i was looking through youtube and found a video of someone using a d17a2 block and a d16y7 head or something like that. and i was curious, what parts from the d17 and d16 can you mix up together? can the transmissions fit together also?

Re: d17 d16?
im fairly sure most everything is interchangeable. for tranny and motor you may need a different mount or two.
iv been trying to swap my girlfriends d17 out with a d16 for a while now.. but you know how that goes.

Re: d17 d16?
I could've sworn last time i checked anywhere in the us it is illegal to put a motor from a earlier generation into a newer chassis... The only legitimate swap for the em2 would b a k swap.

Re: d17 d16?
Well i really don't think i could downgrade from a 1.7 to a 1.6. It's way to much work... plus after spending all that money to make it work u could have a n/a d17 that will run with a new si.. Just my .02.

Re: d17 d16?
It is easier and more cost effective to extract power out of larger displacement engines under most conditions. But since the d17 does not have a huge part support. It might "cheaper" to downsize to a d16 engine.

Re: d17 d16?
Considering the legality and cost of swapping a D16, you would be better off building your D17 with the money.

Re: d17 d16?
this thread is full of bad information...
first off, nobody cares about that legal/illegal bs motor/yr crap...unless youre from cali
second, the d17 barely resembles a d16, it has no distributor. good job ruining your gf's car.
third, check if the deck height is the same between the 1.7 and 1.6. if so, you could probably swap the crank/rods and make a homemade stroker for the 1.6.
