Not Starting
Hi my 2001 Civic would start but run in Limp mode, I noticed that alternator bolts where loose, tightened everything up. Cars still run in limp mode, I did some research and heard that the ECU might be fried. I have ordered a used one with a Key switch including immobilizer key reader. My question is Do I have to Remove the Switch assembly and install the new key assembly and use two different keys, one to get in the car and one to start or can I just Cut a key with the existing pattern and clone the chip with the new key that came with the computer? Does the electronic key reader module (immobilizer reader) have to be switched if i go with the cloning route?

Re: Not Starting
Sounds like you jumped the gun on ordering parts you may not need.
Have you at least tried resetting the ECU?
I had my car go into limp mode after spinning out on a freeway off-ramp. Pulled to the side of the road, removed fuse #6 (15 amp) from the fuse box under the hood, waited a minute before putting in back in. Voila! No more limp mode. Has been fine ever since.
If after resetting the ECU the car goes back into limp mode, have it scanned for codes. Auto Zone, Pep Boys, and various other auto parts stores will scan it for free. Write the code(s) down and then post it (them) here.
You didn't need to buy a key or an immobilizer. The ECU and your existing key need to be reflashed to match each other. Only a dealership can do this.

Re: Not Starting
thanks for the replay.
I have disconnected the battery for it and had waited a 10+mins. I Have connected my personal scanner and it did not seem to make a connection with the ECU, the green immobilizer key just kept flashing while in limp mode. And what i have read this was the symptoms for replacing you ecu.
I am changing the Key so i don't have to the car towed to Honda to get the computer re-programmed. It came as a package so it would not cost me any more than just a computer.
I am a big fan of Honda but i am not very happy 2001's.
