New Carbon Fiber hood. Hood Pins?

I just ordered a VIS racing Carbon fiber hood for my em2 and the web site recommends hood pins for high speed driving, i was wondering if i really do need them or is it just for safety and not really needed?

In a word- no. They either make an inferior product that doesn't quite fit to the hood latch or they're trying to up-sale you. Hood pins are only really needed for constant speeds over 100mph or quicker access to the engine bay.

ive had the same hood for about 5 years now and never had hood pins for it. itll be all good as long as you align it properly and adjust the hood latch. just make sure u take care of the hood and wax it regularly to keep it from oxidizing

thats there to save there ass if something does happen but needless to say it has happened before and im sure it will again its just a matter of taking the chance. i to just installed a VIS hood and im in the process of ordering Aero Catch hood pins because im not willing to take that chance . the areo catch pins are the most aesthetically pleasing.

Leave the hood pins on dedicated track cars. Unless you're getting your latch and hinges, I wouldn't bother. Like the poster above me said, make sure it's properly aligned and latching well and you won't have any issues. Also take good care of it with the waxing...

I had to get hood pins for mine (stock hood, long story) and the only issue I have is people thinking there is more done to the car then is.

At some point (besides racing) I think it is up to you. But I agree it is not a nessicity.

i have a carbon fiber hood and decided to put pins on it, its super light and who knows where they come from or who made it, anything could happen to it so i went ahead and got myself some pins, peace of mind and you cant even notice it they are cf camo pins to match the hood, ontop of that, my little hood visor blocks them off anyway

i put pins on my car for piece of mind. but i hated the way they looked and got tired of everyone askin what i had done and all everywere i went. just do your stuff right and take care of that hood and you will be fine.

Re: New Carbon Fiber hood. Hood Pins?

I had the (fake cf) hood pins when i bought my VIS cf hood. It didn't come with the bolts so the pins were useless anyway. I eventually bought some bolts to match the pins but never installed it. Like everyone else said, make sure its latched properly and you're fine.
