Default Engine Went Bad

Hello all-
I need advice. My 2002 Civic EX engine barings went bad. Honda is estimating a used engine around 2500$ for a used 51,000mi engine. Any thougths? Does the price sound right? 6 months warranty parts and labor with.

well its a good 8-10 hour job I'd say to flip one D for another.... so the labor sounds ok, but you can find D17s for $250-400 at junk yards. Its not that hard of a job with a hoist and some friends... just do it yourself.
Did you spin a rod or a main bearing? How bad is the damage? If its fixable, have a machine shop clean up the motor and rebuild it. The dealer wants to swap it because its easier. Find out if it can be fixed.

in my book 10 hours = 750 bucks tops, but they will probly charge per job, and not by the hour... you can find a shop to swap the motor for less than 1200, just call around, and everyones right a good used motor can be found for less than 800 easy...

In my book 10 hours equals $1000. They'll pay 300 for motor and charge you 550 cause the parts dept has to get there cut. Then charge you 650 for the install. Like already said I would just get buy a motor yourself and invite your friends over for a fun weekend.
