Re: how to remove stock steering wheel?
This is for a 96 but it should be similar
Use extreme caution when working with the airbag.
1. Disconnect negative battery cable
2. Pop off the side panels from the steering wheel to gain access to the torx bolts. You may need to buy the special torx bits from the store. Dont try to remove it with the wrong tools.
3. Pull out the airbag. There will be plugs you need to disconnect for the airbag, horn and cruise control.
4. Hold the wheel or have someone help you, and break loose the center bolt, loosen it but dont remove. This prevents you from smashing yourself in the face if the wheel is hard to get off. Wiggle the wheel a bit to loosen it and pull it off.
5. Reverse for reinstall.
***Make sure you do not turn or remove the cable reel (the thing that says SRS on it in the pic) This is necessary to keep your turn signals working properly.
