hello i have a d16y8 auto tranny laying around at my house out of a 2000 civic ex. i put it up on craigslist and a guy just called me asking if i knew if he could use it in his 01 civic lx with a 1.7 engine in it. i looked and i think its the d17a1.
i know with older d series 5 speed trannys that they can be swapped around to different d series engines but im not sure with auto trannys.

And i dont want to sell the guy something he cant use so im just curious if this will work.

Check to see how the auto shift cable hooks up to both trans. also see if the trans mount works from one to the other.

Sadly, no. Any transmission pre-2001 will not work properly with 2001-2005 D-series drivetrains.

different plugs and sensors and ecu's that run the solenoids. if it was a 5spd on the other hand that may be a different story. d17 flywheel and d16 pilot, throwout and clutch and linkage from the d16 if the d17 is a cable linkage or mounts differently.

Just so you know Y8 auto trannys only work with Y8s, they do not work with Y7s (I found this out the hard way, it will work, but it wont shift quite right and it will throw codes P0700 and P0715)
