HELP P0335 CPS code after new sensor, stuck limp mode
Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your help.
I recently acquired a 2001 Acura 1.7EL. The owner 10k ago had a new head gasket and timing belt installed at a shop. While it first ran, immediately after it wouldn't start at all, and it threw a P0335 code for crankshaft position sensor.
I proceeded to install a new (eBay generic) CPS, and while doing so I damaged the connector and so replaced with a junkyard connector spliced one from a civic.
while the car now starts and runs, the P0335 code persists, and the car is in limp mode - the engine cuts off after 3000rpm. For some reason, the 3 scanners I have tried can read the engine code but can't clear it. Also when they try clear it when running the engine stalls. I can't even clear the engine code by unplugging fuses or battery overnight.
1. Is the problem the cheap eBay CPS? I thought it was a simple magnet so cheap was fine, and it at least starts and runs under 3000rpm which is better than before.
2. Possible the spliced connector I used was bad? I did solder it and cleaned the terminals no corrosion noted.
3. Why can't any of my scanners reset the P0335 code? Would this persistent code be causing the limp mode? Is it a bad ECU? I have read this code should clear on its own, but mine isn't.

Re: HELP P0335 CPS code after new sensor, stuck limp mode
An update.
I unplugged the connector, cleaned with brake cleaner and used dielectric grease. There are no green signs of corrosion and it was plugged correctly. The car starts but still limp mode after 3000 rpm
I tested the wires and everything is proper voltage, there is 12v, ground, and the signal switches from 0 to 5 V when I hand crank, so I think the sensor is working.
also the car works the same when the CPS harness is plugged or unplugged, runs fine until 3k rpm. Is this normal? Seems like there is no signal to the ECU even though I can read it on my multimeter.

when i hear head gasket i think first compression test to be sure the engine is in good shape
and i'm thinking the ecu might be the issue, you can try opening it up and looking for any burned spots
