ecu no longer sending a signal to my crankshaft sensor. in the process of swapping ecu's, found an ecu with exact numbers 37820-PLM-A72.

the question,
-when i plug this new ecu in, are there any steps i need to take before putting the key in the ignition?
-is a dealer going to have to set immobilizer?
-is there a pattern i can perform myself to initialize the immobilizer?
-or will the car start up but have a code, and the dealer has to set?

first time messing with this gen vehicle. im used to EF/EK.. new to me..

any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appriciated. thanks

forgot to mention, this is an 04 civic LX.. heard the 04-05 had different settings when it came to immobilizers.. guru's, set me straight here please.. thanks

bro I heard so many diffrent things on these 7th gen Civics I heard you can fit a k20 ecu but I don't know if it's true!!

You heard wrong. The only way a K-series ECU will work, is with K-Pro and a sub harness (or re-pin) to adapt the ECU to the Civic's dash wiring.

you need to have the dealer program the immobilizer system. vehicle will not start other wise so u will need to drive there or tow it and have them swap the ecu's

ecu is no longer sending a signal to the crankshaft sensor? it doesn't work that way. the sensor sends a signal to the ecu. Properly diagnose your car or have a qualified technician look at it before you start randomly changing components. the crankshaft sensor has 3 wires, source voltage, ground and signal. if the sensor doesn't have power and ground or continuity between it and the ecu, look at the wiring before you swap computers and end up with the same problem.

and thanks skipbarber for that, i do understand that, i mis typed that. i meant to say the ecu is no longer reading my sensor. im a tech for lexus. and i know the proper diagnosis for these things. just wasnt familar with honda's immobilizer system. had a code p0336. sensor has sourse voltage and good ground and a signal is being sent to the ecu. but im still getting the code. and yes, i have checked timing about 5 times now cuz every time i tell them whats going on they say "it prob jumped a tooth". that was the first thing i checked. i have checked continuity from the sensor to the ecu. no issues there.

got my answer i was looking for. thanks guys

i just posted the exact same issue. i found that my ecu has gone bad. look up "ecu replacement question" for some insight
