Default diff and speedometer gears not meshed

I have a '01 Civic with the 5spd trans, that needed a new clutch. While the trans was out of the car, I thought I would put new bearings in the transmission. I have replaced the input shaft bearing, the intermediate shaft bearing, and both differential bearings. When I test fit the case back together with only the diffential inside, I get a LOT of clicking noises. They seem to come from the worm drive gear of the speedometer sensor moving up and down as it turns, instead of just staying in one position. The diff spins really nicely when installed in one side of the case only...as long as the speedo sensor is not installed as well!

I really need the car back together tonight, and was hoping someone could help!!!

Thanks!

Peter
