D17A2 rattle/buzz on deceleration
D17A2 engine MT, '02 EM2. 102k miles. I hear a buzz that is only present on deceleration from 5k rpm through 4k rpm. Revving up past 4-5k makes no noise, but when pressing the clutch to shift, if the rpms pass through the 4-5k range it makes the sound. Stops lower than 4k and never starts higher than 5k. It doesn't sound like any rod knock I know of... No recent engine mods or repairs, I am chaining timing belt tensioner and water pump as standard preventative maintenance soon though. A friend says it sounds like the clutch throw out bearing, but the sound can be heard regardless of clutch position or gear selection. Even does it at a stand still.

There's just too much to speculate from just a video across the internet, but my wild *** guess is an exhaust or converter heatshield? I have a similar noise on my 90 Si hatch and I'm pretty sure it's a rattling heatshield I'm too lazy to deal with. It always occurs at the same RPM and it's been that way for more than 6 years.

Understandable.
I got under the car and saw nothing really going on, and of course I can't hear it clear enough with the noise at 5k under the hood... I'll try the heat shield though, that would be a relief haha
