D17 transmmission compatibility
is the D17 transmission compatible with the rest of the d series motors? aka D17 2002 transmission on a d15b7 1993 motor?

I really can't confirm or deny the bellhousing bolt pattern, but I can tell you they shift completely differently (cable shifter, like an accord/prelude/K-series) and the mount locations and bolt patterns are most likely not the same as older D-series trannys.

Re: D17 transmmission compatibility
Thats why i wanted to know about it. currently developing a kit car utilizing solid works 09 that uses the honda drive train thats most common, the D series, and building from there so aftermarket mounts for h, f, b, k, and J series are compatible.
the cable trans would be perfect, i.e. no solid linkage to work out, cable driven only.

Re: D17 transmmission compatibility
My friend has a D17A engine, mounted in a D15B tranny. Fits perfect.
Pics of the setup:
Don't laugh, it's a pretty funny car, totally rat looking, FPR tuned, DSM injectors, E100 and IAT trick to change ign timing.

Re: D17 transmmission compatibility
d15 and a d16 trans will not fit on the d17 block the only thing that transfers over is the clutch and flywheel.
and that pic I don't know what it is up with it first you can't see the trans at all with the rats nest. the chassis is not an 01-05 civic it has a y-8 mani on never seen that turbo mani. that car has been so mdified to make things work that even if he has a d15/16 trans on it there is a very good chance the bell housing has been modified to make it fit on the car.
cause if the d15/16 trans fit a lot more of us would be running it. and some of us have already tried

Re: D17 transmmission compatibility
Hah, learn it the hard way and get yourself a 01-05 EX tranny and try to bolt it onto a D15/16 or vise versa. You'll learn the hard way there.
Get a tranny that goes with the motor and don't waste your money trying too.

Re: D17 transmmission compatibility
there are a few pics in this for sale thread..
doesn't look like the typical D-series trans bolt pattern... but, like you i would want to try it first hand to be sure.

Re: D17 transmmission compatibility
if the d15b trans fits, i have a cable setup that will run the transmissions, that way no rod linkage. it just needs to be refined quite a bit...
