2005 DX-VP sedan - 44mph standing still
I'm afraid I already know the answer, but:
Speedometer reads ~44 mph standing still and appears to be about that much fast... (flow of traffic equals about 115-120 indicated...)
Odometer works and appears accurate by checking against map directions...
Check engine light is not on...
I'm thinking the cluster is bad as the VSS should set a code?

Made this video in the fall - is this what is going on?
I was told that the motor in the back of the needle was no good, swapped to Type S cluster, love it but read the posts as a guy just fixed his a couple days ago by taking the needle off and layering it up to grab the post. I have also hear of the speedo sticking to the gauge or the clear plastic, might want to check that out first.

Sort of, it just started today and although it does vary some it sticks between 40 and 50. Whatever it is at a stop, it seems to be that much fast... so if it reads 40 at rest and 100 going down the road then subtracting 40 from 100 seems to give the real speed of around 60...
Will do.
...
This is a VP so it has no tach and no colored or chrome rings, I believe it is a Visteon cluster...
A new one is not horribly expensive, but having the mileage reset seems like a pain... Need to check with Speedometer Service and see if it can be repaired once I verify the problem.

Once the gauge needles go up it will likely skip once it pins out then drop back to normal. I found that turning the ignition on and off will drop it back as well but in slow increments. But likely going to happen again and needs to be replaced.

Guess I should update.
It returned to normal after a few days. (I think it was after running the gauge test but my memory is fuzzy) and so far has not recurred...
