2005 civic LX 4dr smell

2005 civic LX 4 door
I get that dirty oil smell at seemingly random times.
I usually have the fan blowing forward and feet.
Vents open.
Is the smell coming from the engine into the vents into the cabin?
Or is it from outside, like a swamp or fast food?

Change the cabin air filters.

Clean the engine bay.

Change your shoes.

But only for a few seconds maybe once or twice a day.
And unpredictable.

You're probably just smelling odors coming in from outside of the vehicle. You know, as in traffic. Someone burning a little oil?

Sometimes catalytic converters can put off quite a stink.

do what they all suggested and if those dont work.. take it to a detail place and have the inside shampoo'd and engine clean

with my own carelessness, i spilled some oil down my the engine. It took months for the smell of burning oil due to the heat of the engine to disappear.
