2005 Civic-Caliper Pin problem
This is my first post...
We have a 2005 Civic LX.
I replaced the break pads the other night. When I removed the caliper bracket to clean the pad holding slots. I also removed the caliper slid pins rubber boots to clean and apply new high-temp grease. I noticed when I put the bottom pin back into the caliper pin hole there was a a great deal of back pressure on the pin. It pushes itself out completely stretching the rubber boot. I was able to get the caliper back into place, however it required alot of effort to decompres the pin (not the actual caliper piston). Now I have a grinding noise coming from the side where I had found that the bottom guide pin had alot of back pressure. I'm thinking the pressure is causing the breaks to drag.
I'm wondering if I need to replace the caliper guide pin. Could the rubber piece on the end of the caliper guide pin be the problem?

Re: 2005 Civic-Caliper Pin problem
I'm fairly certain it back together properly, however I will take the tire off and take a few pics.
Are you thinking the pins has nothing to do with?
I only asks since the other pin on the right side caliper does not have the same pin pressure.
thanks for our reply...

Hard to say what the problem is. I didn't take it apart, or put it together. The caliper bracket should slide without much (if any) resistance, though.

I agree with you, the caliper should move freely. This is why I question the pin, since it has a great deal of back pressure. When I had the caliper completely apart, I put it in the slide pin hole to make sure it moved in and out smoothly, it pushed itself back out why completely dis-assembled. Like their was air pressure pushing the pin back out of the hole. This actually happened with and without grease on the pin.
Thanks for your response

Re: 2005 Civic-Caliper Pin problem
Pin with rubber bushing should always been on the bottom, they do swell over time and depending on what you are using for lubricant. Low cost to purchase, at year five why not change? Try to clean out caliper bracket, suspect there might be too much lubricant in the pin hole, and the rubber bushing is acting like a piston ring, keeping the extra lubricant and air inside being compressed, instead of being exhausted.

roberte_2400, have you solved the problem with the caliper pin with rubber boot having back pressure? I have the same thing with 2006 Accord. Don't know if it will cause any problem.
