2004 Honda Civic Hybrid won't move in gear but will move on jack stands
2004 Honda Civic Hybrid manual transmission will not move in any gear. It rolls freely. It shifts into every gear, linkage is okay. It will not shift into gear if the engine is running and you do not push the clutch pedal. But if you push the clutch pedal it will go into all gears just fine. Rpms go up. Mph stays at 0. Jacked the car up andthe tires will spin just fine in all gears and mph will go up. No trans leaks and no broken axles or pop outs as far as I can tell. The clutch pedal feels like it has pressure as if it was working correctly, but when you let it all the way up in gear the car will just roll freely as if it was in neutral when it is on the road. Just works and starts rolling the tires when it is on jack stands. With the engine off and the car in gear I can feel resistance while spinning the tires and they both spin if you spin the other, in opposite directions. Help me lol.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. Going to pull the trans sometime this week. Just wanted to know if any other easier possibilities before I did.

With the car on jack stands... put the car in 4th or 5th gear and let the clutch out and give the engine some throttle to get the RPM's up to about 2000... does the speedometer needle rise or stay at zero ??? If it stays at zero, your problem is likely the clutch. If it rises, you either have a broken or popped out axle.

Any updates on this thread? I got an 03 with a 5 speed manual transmission as part of a deal and it has the exact same symptoms. I am going with a clutch kit replacement. Just bought a repair manual online and am just waiting for it to get here before I tackle my first clutch in a hybrid. Wish me luck!

Clutch kit replacement solved the problem.
Just FYI, the Hybrid version has little in common with all the full gas versions. I even bought a $10 repair manual off of eBay and ended up using just the pictures for reference. The big dilemma I had was if I would need to touch the high voltage system and the answer is "NO". If you have done a clutch kit replacement before this is a very basic setting. Good luck future DIY guys!
