2003 Civic limp mode
Hi, my name is Kevin, I live in California and i'm having a problem with my 2003 civic. It's a 2003 Lx 4 door with a 1.7. It hasn't been driven in a few years. I recently started to get it running again. When I parked it in 2012 it had a check engine light and was in limp mode. I checked it and it said crankshaft position sensor. I did all of the testing of the wiring and everything checked out good. So, I decided must be the sensor and I replaced it. It still never cleared the code and wouldn't come out of limp mode. Figured I got a defective sensor and swapped it out with a different one. Still didn't fix it. I did some research and found that the camshaft position sensor could be the cause. Again stated with the basics and checked the wiring and everything checked out ok. Now I'm on my second sensor and with installing those sensors the car will start and stall instantly. With the old sensor in the car runs but won't come out of limp mode. Thank you in advance for all of your help

I've already checked all of the wiring and everything checks out fine. Just don't understand how with the old sensor it runs in limp mode and with the new sensor it doesn't run. It also doesn't throw codes

Re: 2003 Civic limp mode
hmm, you have good progress so far.
Can you read the sensor signal? You may need an oscilloscope, but there are new digital versions that will work.
I do want one of those, btw, my old one was the vacuum tube type, like a big old television thing! Very cool, but maybe to a weird guy like me.
But basically, they let you see the sensor, the wheel, everything. Test it at the ECM if possible, it lets you make sure that the signal actually gets there.

I have the same problem, replaced 3 crankshaft sensors, 2 O2 sensors, and catalytic converter, and timing belt. I also replaced the spark plus. Did you ever get the problem fixed???

I took it to a mechanic. The timing belt was off 1 tooth and they had to get a crankshaft position sensor from Honda. Not 1 I bought off the Internet.

Interesting it threw a code for the timing belt being off a tooth. My 96 was off a tooth after a timing belt job which I caught a week later when I went to make sure all was well after the new belt. But it never threw a code, then again, the early obd2 is basically obd1.5 compared to the versions which began in 2000.
