2003 Civic Hybrid has thumping at take off
Hi, my daughter bought a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid and every time you accelerate from a stop, it feels and you can hear a thumping in the rear end area. It feels like you are driving over low stop bumpers (sometimes on roads before coming to stop signs). Only does it for a few seconds then is fine. But it happens every time stop and go. Anyone have this issue? If so did you find a cause? Thanks so much for any help!

Major concern here. Check for stuck brake caplipers (drums, whatever), frozen e-brake cable, shot trailing arm bushings and frozen sway bar end links. Hell, maybe even wheel lug nuts and wheel bearings. Basically go over the whole rear suspension, braking, and rotational setup. It sounds dangerous to drive in this condition.

Wow, thank you! The guy she bought it from said it was normal for a hybrid. I knew that could not be right. Again, thanks so much!

There are no components, hybrid or gasoline engine related, on a front whee drive car that should ever make a noise like that, DEFINITELY not feel like that.
Might also have a bad alignment. That, coupled with weak rear bushings, could be changing the toe of your rear wheels so much it chirps the tires slightly as it squats during acceleration. See if the sound/feel persists during gentle vs aggressive acceleration.
