17" rims too big for em2?

Hi guys,

My brother has a pair of 17" Rota ( I think the model name is attack) wheels and am curious if these will be ok on my car. I do plan on lowering an inch or so not sure if this matters, but just thought id mention it. Just dont want the wheels to rub or anything like that...or be too heavy.

Another thing is that the rims are silver- and so is my car. This doesnt look good IMO is there anyway that they can be painted for cheap and not look cheesy? I was thinking of flat black or maaaaybe gold/bronze but will have to do more research. If anyone has pics of silver em2's with gold or bronze rims please post.

As long as the wheels have the correct lug pattern and offset and you use the correct size tires that are ideal for your civic, then I don't see why not.

Check the wheel/tire forum here on H-T to see what people have done painting their wheels on their own. Most of them are pretty good and have a nice step-by-step process on how it's done.

Just by chance, do you know if Rota Attack ( not sure this is the model but looks like it) will fit on a 7th gen civic? My brother used these on his old WRX.

I have 17x7.5 Rota Circuit's wrapped with 205/45/17 lowered on Eibach Sportlines (1.7") and no rubbing problems whatsoever. Make sure their 4x100 lug pattern and not a crazy offset.
Considering the amount you will pay for tires before you decide to go with those. It would suck dealing with a set of rims that you didn't intend to buy from the start.

Ok,

The only info I found on the rims was "5x100" "505kg" and "690kg" im assuming the last two are weight measurements. Inside the rims there is a number 1775 im guessing this means 17" x 7.5".

They already have tires- Dunlop Sport 9000 225/45zr17 and they look like theyre in good shape.

5x100 - Bolt Pattern. Your EM2 is 4x100, so unless it's drilled as a multi-pattern, you won't be able to run them.

505kg & 690kg - wheel load scale.

1775 - 17x7.5 wheel size, most likely.

Re: 17" rims too big for em2?

I think they may have more than one bolt pattern- theres a total of about 10 different holes, but it almost looks two different 5x100 bolt patterns. Its hard to explain wish i had a digi camera.

If there's 10 holes, it's either two sets of 5x100 or one set of 5x100 and one set of 5x114.3. Either way, neither bolt pattern fits an EM2. You have a four lug setup, not five.

Oh, alright then... looks like I cant use these rims. They seem too big anyways. btw I found some rims I really like but cant tell what size and brand they are . Its also hard to tell how much of a drop it is. Let me know if you can tell what they are.

I think this set up would look sick on my car.

Im guessing theyre the 16"x7" with a 40 offset? And not that I want these perticular wheels... I just need an example of which size wheels to shoot for. Now if I only knew how low the drop was.

There's a set of Volk LE37's in the FS thread stuck to the top of this forum. They're about the exact same size as those Rota's are.

Re: 17" rims too big for em2?

To answer the original question in the title, No. 17 inchs is NOT too big for your civic. I was rolling on 18's. 7.5 width for a year or so, slammed as far down as the Tein basic dampers would go and never had a rubbing issue. The rear tire actually was up in the wheel well, showing only wheel. Still no rubbing issues. The trend now a days is to get the smaller wheels, like 16's seems to be the favorite. I still like the larger wheels. It's all personal preference. Sounds like the wheels you're looking at won't fit though. Especially if they're 5x100.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my message and took time to post pics. One more question- I'm looking at the Volk website, and the size for the te37 is 16x7 with a 42mm offset...is this the correct size for my car? Im not too familiar with the whole offset thing so thought id ask.

Blackem2- Nice, ive always liked white rims on black cars. When I owned my 99 dx coupe white rims are what I wanted to get for them but never got a chance.

It's not a "trend" to have smaller wheels. They provide better performance gains than larger alternatives. I've had 16's on my car for over 4 years now.

If you're asking if they'll fit properly, then yes they will.

Re: 17" rims too big for em2?

The ones on my EM2 are 17inch Borbet Type LS rims, 215/45/R17's. Your bolt pattern is 4-100 so if the Rotas are the same, it will fit just fine. The rear fenders may need rolled. Mine sure do, as they rub if I have 3 people in my back seat (you all know it's a challenge to fit three people there...) They only rub on bumps and with heavy people back there, so I was probably over the maximum load weight in the car anyways. If you're going to roll the fenders anyways, go with 225's just for that extra rubber on the road. (Probably better tire choices too).
