05 Honda Civic blown Radiator
 

hello,

So i have some sucky news my 05 honda civic EX SE has a problem yesterday my car was acting up it was spiking, now it was a normal thing for my car to spike i have had the car tested numberous times and replaced the thermostat flushed the coolent no repair show could tell me for sure what was wrong with my car. well the radiator isnt holding any fluides at the moment i couldnt tell where it was leaking from but i know that it is for sure leaking. the car has always had a heating/cooling issue but now its finally claiming my car. every time when i idle the car at a red light with the heater on it blows cold air and then gets hot again when i start driving again. can anyone tell me what is wrong with my car before i drop thousands of dollars on it and it not fix the problem?

so i got even worse news form the mechanic and its going to cost me just under 2,000 to get me car fixed. list of what it needs.


-new radiator
-new Head gasket
-new water pump
-new therostat

basically the whole cooling system is shot according to the mechanic.

any thoughts would be much appreciated.

yea its very unlikely the rad is leaking. more than likely, youre leaking coolant into the combustion chambers via the blown head gasket. I would say if the headgasket is definitely blown, fix that first and then see if the problem still persists. dont bother with the water pump and rad until after the headgasket. The thermostat does need to be changed though if you have been over heating. no biggy though, they are cheap and easy to do yourself if you dont wanna pay for it.

if the water pump is shot, while youre at it, change out your belt. It has to come off anyway, so no sense in paying labor again for it down the road (its pricey!). The belt itself only costs like $20 but a few hundred in labor in many cases.

If it does come out to need all that stuff, it sucks that its pricey, but they are all wear and tear parts, so they would need to be replaced at some point anyway. just sucks if its all at once.

By no means do I mean to be "that guy" that says search, but for your own peace of mind to realize youre not alone, do a quick search on 01-05 overheating. youre gonna realize you are far from alone with this problem, myself included.
