02 Civic Service Check connector?
 

Hello,

I just bought a 2002 civic (I am the 2nd owner) and the SRS light is on. The previous owner told me that it had been on for a year or so... I took the chance that it wasn't a serious problem.

I've reset the light myself a few times already but I want to know what is causing the light to come on.

I read a few forum posts that speak of a "SCS connector", or something of the sort, that is located below the glove box. Apparently there are two such connectors in this location, one with 2 pins (SCS) and one with 3 pins (data link connector DLC). I tore my dashboard apart and cannot find any such connector. I called Honda and told them that I cannot find this connector and they directed me to the 16 pin one near the gas pedal but I told the guy that I wanted the one that I can hook a jumper wire to and the SRS light in the dash will flash the codes... he told me that only civics up to 2001 have such a connector.

Is this true!? If not, can some one help me find this damn thing??? Your help is VERY much appreciated. I REALLY don't want to pay $80 just to find the code... I'd rather know the code and decide whether it's worth fixing.

well usually autozone will plug in the code for free..

Thank you, but I already checked the FAQs. I have reset the light, but it keeps coming on. The connector you use to reset it is different from the one you use to pull codes. I need to pull the codes, not just keep reseting the light. But thanks.

in the OBD2 conector theres a brn/yel on pin 4 and a brn on pin 9. short those 2 together and the check engine light, ABS, and SRS lights will blink any OBD1 trouble codes. not as direct as the scanner method but has saved my but sevral times from buying a expensive code reader https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

Thanks man! I actually found a store that tried to pull the codes for free already, but I'll definitely use that tip in the future.

On that note, there were no codes stored but the srs light was on! What does that mean?? I did find out, though, that after I reset the srs light, it comes back on when I unbuckle my seatbelt while the engine is running. I assume that this means that there's some sensor in my belt buckle... is this something that's covered under lifetime warranty in Canada too? For second owners?

I'm going to call Honda tomorrow, but I thought I'd ask here too... just in case the Honda people aren't forthcoming with the info.
