Default To those with UNpainted valve covers...

Does it get dirty easily? With all of these painted valve cover threads i thought i'd give those with the "bare metal" look a chance in the limelight.

thanks.

If it WAS painted but now is stripped its pretty cool looking. But the bare ones, well mine has like lime, and salt and some other nasty crap but thats because Ive never touched it and a B16 is going in there. You dont really have to worry about dirt, since thats what the valve cover is meant to keep out.

no, i was referring to those who have stripped the paint off and left it bare metal. i wonder how quickly that picks up dirt floating in the engine bay...

I stripped mine and started to polish it, but didn't get to finish it. then winter came.

it now officially looks like complete ***

right, i like it too, but my concern is that with an unpainted surface, like the manifold or something similar, is that it is susceptible to the elements and can easily "stain". I was curious as to how quickly this occurs...

BTW - I like that header wrap...you got that the whole way down? doesn't it crack if it gets wet?

I just sandblasted my valve cover, so it's down to the bare metal. I was thinking about polishing it, but would you constantly have to re-polish it to keep it looking nice? I like the bare metal look, but I would like to keep stains off it. Also, what kind of polish do you guys use? Any pics would help also.

eastwood comapany sells a clearcoat paint that is heat rated for like 400degs. hot enough for the valve cover i'd think. that would keep it from oxidizing if you polished it.
