anyways, i was in the market for a new toy. found a deal on a 95 civic ex coupe. white, minty clean, etc.... i live in minnesota, car was in chicago. i have traveled a long way for cars before (san diego, dallas, etc...). anyways me and a buddy drive out there to see this car. turns out that both rear quarters were ALL bondo crap. i was kind of pissed. he was asking $3900 for it. told him i'd still take it if the price came down quite a bit. i offered what i paid, he said no. so we left and on the way back and decided to stop by a couple local sales lots. found this GTI but it was priced at $6500. i liked it, but too much. find out it is a consignment car. i told the dealer to call her and see if she would consider lowering the price. he cant get ahold of her so he said to call or stop back in a couple days. 3 days later i stop by(forgot to get his card) and he said he got it down to $5000. i told him its getting closer (still only have a budget of $3900). he said he'd talk to her again. so 2 days later i stop in and he said price was $4000. i looked the car over had a few things like broken glove box, armrest, and a few other minor things. also the check engine light was on. anyways i leave letting him know i'd call him back in a little bit. on a whim i call him back and offer $3500 cash, no banks, no checks, cash. he calls her and calls me back and said she'd take it. got it the next day. i found out from the dealer that the reason i was able to talk her down so much is that she was selling her sons car that she bought him because he got 5 speeding tickets and got his license taken away and she just wanted it gone....like right now gone. anyways the parts i can get for cheap, and the cel was on cause of a loose gas cap
car has front/rear brake upgrades. upgraded turbo, newer engine ($4500 and i have the receipt) apr ecu software, k&n intake, $150 diverter valve (bov kind of), optima red top, aftermarket exhaust, body kit, all sorts of goodies. i HELL of a starting point. for sure
