My Mugen Formula 3 Racecar
1994 Dallara F394 (Formula 3). The car is made entirely out of carbon-fiber and weighs only 900-lbs. Powering the car is an authentic Mugen F3 race motor (MF-204). The motor is derived from a B20A5 block (early 90's Prelude). Not much different other than the use of lightweight components (power increase from 135 to 165-hp). All other components are Mugen (engine hub, ITBs, exhaust). All F3 cars at that time ran 24mm restrictors (that CF tear-drop shaped object). According to the current owners, it ran 3Gs at Brands Hatch.
History: This car was originally owned by Willi Webbers (Michael Schumacher's and Ralf Schumacher's manager) and his two drivers for German F3 were: Ralf Schumacher (Formula 1 Driver) and Sascha Maassen (Porsche factory driver for ALMS). The car was later owned by COMTEC and ran in British F3. Then Steve Nichols (Ayrton Senna's F1 chief engineer) bought the car, threw out the Opel-Spiess motor and put in the Mugen race motor. Ran in British ARP F3. Currently owned by Halcyon who campaigned it in Formula Libre. It's on its way to Texas https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...d/102_3038.JPG http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...8_bew79/a2.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...9_ylnsy/a3.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...4_ouvw8/a4.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...5_6yyvg/a5.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...6_urwon/a6.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...7_zbfyf/a7.jpg |

What you see in that picture is the dirt/debris that was collected on the tire from it rolling on the ground. There is only dirt on the inner 1/2 because of the camber angle. Rest assured that all of the rear tires are utilized under cornering/load. |
Re: My Mugen Formula 3 Racecar (00ekcoupe)
pretty interesting, so Foogen had to borrow a steering wheel from momo. thats funny
|
No blinkers. The race clutch is very sensitive and will detonate if you feather it like everybody does in streetcars.
No, I wish this was a Formula 1 car with a Mugen V8 or V10. This is a Formula 3 car with a Mugen 4-cyl race motor. The next step from F3 is F3000 (Formula Nippon). Those cars run Mugen V8 motors. Then it's the big leagues in F1. The car is made by Dallara Automobili (Italian). They supply everything (including the Momo steering wheel) except for the motor. You have a choice of fitting: Mugen-Honda, Opel-Spiess, AMG-Mercedes, Tom's Racing-Toyota motors. Mugen only supplies the engine bits (Mugen motor, intake, ITBs, headers, exhaust). Everything else is Dallara (well, except for the Pi datalogger and OZ race wheels). |

Quite frankly, it worries me. The owner tells me that the Mugen-Honda motors are very easy to maintain compared to the other race motors. I would prefer not to disclose the costs of this particular car, but I can tell you that any of the Dallara cars in this era (165-hp restriction) will range between $15,000-45,000 USD. Price varies on race-pedigree, condition, etc... The newer Dallara cars (210-hp restriction) will cost $40,000-75,000 USD. |

Re: My Mugen Formula 3 Racecar (medstudent)
very nice vehicle https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
how common is this motor? is it the same as all other B20s "The motor is derived from a B20A5 block (early 90's Prelude)." |
