My DIY CTR "Style" Grill How To (56k OK)

Tin Snips Phillips Screwdriver Marker Hack Saw Blade Flat Black Paint Gutter Gaurd OEM 96-98 Grill http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg 1. Remove grill from car. You can take it out with or without the bumper on. It's much harder with the bumper on the car. It can be done though. 2. Remove trim piece from front of grill with screwdriver. There are several screws holding it on on the back of the grill. 3. Cut out center of grill with hack saw blade. Careful to cut it smoothly and level. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg 4. Mark an outline of the trim piece (a little larger than the trim) on the grill insert (gutter gaurd) with your marker. 5. Cut out the shape of the grill insert with tin snips. 6. Paint the grill insert with flat black paint. I sprayed a few quick coats of primer before painting it. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg 7. Insert the grill piece between the backing and the trim piece. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg 8. Screw the backing and grill back together. This can be pretty tricky trying to keep the grill insert situated properly while screwing the grill back together. Having two people helps. The grill insert should stay in there sandwiched between the backing and the trim. Well, mine did. HAHA! 9. All back together. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg 10. Back on the car. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg Gutter Gaurd - $1.49 Paint - Free My Time - Free Total Cost - $1.49 https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg Modified by DANgerous at 1:34 PM 9/6/2004 Modified by DANgerous at 1:39 PM 9/6/2004 Modified by DANgerous at 10:33 AM 9/16/2004 Modified by DANgerous at 4:53 PM 2/18/2005 |

I was weary of just painting the gutter guard, thinking it would chip. How is it holding up so far? I do a lot of NorCal/Socal driving so this would be a concern for me. </TD></TR></TABLE>
Well, i really don't know yet. Car hasn't left the driveway since i did the install. The paint did chip a little while i was securing it between the plastic pieces. I just masked off the front plastic trim though and resprayed the gutter gaurd with some more paint. I'll keep you guys/gals informed on the durability. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |

I was thinking of constructing something to cover up the hood latch, but the more i look at it, you can barely see it anways so BAH! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif |

Probably the first thing I did to my car about 4 years ago. Totally changes the look of the front end too.

Re: My DIY CTR "Style" Grill How To (undertheradar)
That looks good. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif Did you put your rear badge on the grill? What did you use for your grill as far as material?
