Default Heating your DIY valve cover in the oven question???

Ok my first attempt at spraying some VHT krinkle paint to my valve cover did not turn out the best. Some parts has a nice krinkle and some seemed too smooth. From the instructions it says if you heat it in the oven the krinkle turns out better.
So the question is will there be any bad smell coming from my oven. Will the smell be in the oven for a while. I don't want to get in trouble for this since if you think about it.....it just don't feel safe cooking after doing that.

Here's what I found searching, and this guy uses the oven and dam his **** turn out looking like OEM.

Any help is appreciated and i know I suck at masking..

the way i did my valve cover is that i sprayed one even coat all over, then used a blow dryer so that it would wrinkle evenly, then sprayed another coat and used the blow dryer again...i did this about 6 times...

i then put it in my oven for about 300 degrees for 20 mins or so, right after the last coat and blow drying session...and this is how it turned out...perfectly wrinkled all over

and yes, your house will smell like paint while its baking in the oven...but it goes away once you take out the valve cover and the oven cools down

oohhh nice, did you spray one direction for the first layer and then a crossing direction for the next layer and so on. That is what the direction on the can says to do.

Also how far do you hold the hair blower from the valve cover.....3, 6, 12"???

i went back and forth across like 2 or 3 times per layer...and i had my blow dryer on the hottest setting at about 3 inches...pretty much until i saw the paint start to wrinkle

Do you think it is really needed to heat in oven. I'm trying to avoid doing this because of a lot of reasons???

Ok well I got like 3 valve covers so I'll try this again tomorrow. I still got like 1 full can and a can that has about 25% left.

For 1 valve cover, how much did you end up using. A full bottle or what, give me a percentage % if you still got some left after you were finished with the VC.

well imo i think its needed to heat in the oven so that the paint can bake and adhere better and faster onto the VC and possibly minimize the risk of the paint chipping later...ive had mine painted like this for the past year and nothing has chipped off from the heat or pressure washer from cleaning my bay

ive tried to scrape off some paint with my fingernail to test how it stands and the paint is literally rock hard

as for the can, i probably used up about 3/4 of it

I did not use a oven, heat gun, or blow dryer on mine and mine came out perfect...when it says spray heavy coats...it means HEAVY coats.....

Yeah I did spray some heavy a$$ coats. At first I thought that was the reason why it was not good because I sprayed the coats too thick...but i'm ??? right now.
