Codes P0453 and P0401
I have a 2004 Honda Accord V6. The Engine light is on. I took it to AutoZone and they put it on their computer. The codes P0453 and P0401 came back. Sensors required.
What type of sensors are these and can I replace them myself. I've worked on cars in the past, but don't want to have to do major work on it. Should I take it to a dealer.

Re: Codes P0453 and P0401
P0401 is pretty common in V6 Accords; EGR flow insufficient. The most common problem is restriction in the EGR ports from built up debris. The EGR valve is really simple to remove, it's two 12mm nuts and the valve is located near the throttle body. I'd take it off and clean out the ports with a coat hanger or something.
The second code is Fuel Tank pressure sensor. I would unplug the FTP and whip out an ohm meter to test if it's bad before changing it. On terminals 1&2, you should be reading 4-6 ohms and terminals 3&4 should be reading 4-6 ohms as well. If there's no resistance or the resistance readings are off, then replace the sensor. If the readings are accurate, then you've probably got a short to ground somewhere in the wiring harness.

Re: Codes P0453 and P0401
For code P0401,
Remove the intake manifold upper cover and clean the intake manifold EGR port with carburetor cleaner and a brush.
The upper cover mounting bolts and nuts should be removed sequentially. After cleaning, install a new gasket and tighten the bolts and nuts sequentially. (Torque: 8.7 lbf-ft.)
