Default High Idle stuck in park! 03 Accord help!

Hello everyone. I have been gathering information from this site but need some help on how to proceed.

I have been noticing high idle, often in park, now it's high during driving such that when coming to a stop, a hard downshift (AT). Most pressing currently, the vehicle is stuck in park. I can get it out of park using the override.

I took it to the dealer, we thought it was mostly likely the brake light switch. They actually replaced the brake light switch, that did not work. We also noticed that my brake lights do work, horn works, and they checked all the fuses. They suggested it might be the shift interlock solenoid...will have to bring back in to diagnose, which I am sure means $$$$$. We are not hearing the "click" when you depress the brake, which is why we think it might be the solenoid?

By reading great info on this site and others, I think it might be the TPS sensor, which of course is not sold separately from Honda, they make you buy the entire throttle body. I was wondering if anyone thinks that may be the culprit. I have read that messed up idle plus stuck in park could be due to TPS losing voltage.

I just started a family and really cannot afford a new throttle body...(if that is what it is). How can I test my TPS? Should I just buy one online and replace it? If I do, that, how to I adjust it? I do not have a lot of experience using a multimeter... Any help, diagrams, procedure would be greatly appreciated. Is it just plug and play? I found TPS on Amazon, anyone think it would work?

Thanks soooo much!

Default Re: High Idle stuck in park! 03 Accord help!

How high is the idling? should be at 790+-50 RPM when In park or Neutral. My 03 Accord V6 is at the 800 to 790 mark when in park or neutral. And in order too property test the Throttle position sensor (TPS) sensor. it might have to be checked using the HDS software (MVCI) or electric scanner that has the capability of checking the TPS sensor. But first I would check if you have any problems with PCV valve system. and brake booster hose check for any leaks. usually those thing cause a high idle. Also check to see if you have a check engine light. Have someone scan it for you or if you have onecheck for DTC's. If you do get a code I bet it would be The P0507 which is idle higher then expected. fix the idle issue first. then after that's done and idle is with in Factory spec. And still not shifting from park then check the Shift Interlock solenoid.
