2004 Honda Accord LX 4 Cylinder HG Advice
Hi everyone,
I have a 2004 Accord LX with over 150,000 miles.
I had to replace a Head Gasket about 3 years ago at 115,000 miles.
Well, recently I have noticed that the coolant in the reservoir tank has been needing a top off every 45 days or so.
I took it to my local mechanic who has done most of my work for the past 2 years now. He has done a pressure test to the cooling system and says I have an internal leak.
There is not any coolant in the oil or any white smoke. The cars runs fine and there isn't any check engine light on.
My mechanic says the coolant must be entering the spark plug are and it is getting burnt up which is why the oil does not have any coolant in it.
Anyhow, My mechanic says $950 would be the cost to replace the head gasket and a few other components like new spark plugs and honda coolant ect. This price includes the machine job as well.
Is this a fair price for this type of service?
I hate to have to replace another head gasket so soon (the other was cover under warranty though). My mechanic says one of the reasons that the head gasket may have become damaged is because the other shop did not use the Honda coolant.
What are your thoughts and comments?

Dam! Is it a golden HG? Definitely get a second opinion. If you're gonna have to pay that much they need to replace the timing belt, tensioner and waterpump also. *Make sure they use OEM parts.
