Did I Screw up my power steering system?
Hi Folks,
I have a 2012 Honda accord, 4 cyl, with 30k miles on it. The power steering pump was making a whining noise, not too bad but the steering worked fine.
I decided to replace the pump with a new( not remanned) autozone PS pump. I flushed out the old fluid using the old pump. and installed the new pump.
like an idiot i didn't do good research and i used generic prestone power steering fluid. I filled the resevoir, and got all the air out and it worked fine.
the next day when i started it up, it was like there was no power steering at all( temp was 60 deg F).. It warmed up for 5 min and then worked fine and worked fine the rest of the day.
i bought Honda compatible fluid from autozone and flushed out the prestone fluid and filled it with honda compatible fluid, but it does the same thing: doesnt work in morning when cold start, but after 5 minutes works fine
my question is, did i screw up the entire ps system and I need to replace rack and pump or is there something is can do to fix this problem?
any help would be appreciated. There are no bubbles in the resevoir at all., i bleed it by turning it lock to lock dozen or so times.
thanks,
rick mohlmann
