OK...so i got my code read with PCMSCAN:

P0325 - Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

Any ideas...

Most likely a rat chewed the knock sensor sub harness underneath the intake manifold plenum. The knock sensor is a single wire sensor. Fairly easy to diagnose.

Not the case here...

I clear the code and it doesn't return until 4 or 5 minutes after driving. If the actual cable was chewed or destroyed, it would be a "hard" fault and would trigger my CEL immediately upon restarting the car.

I've cleared the code 3 times now and it religiously comes back on only after driving about 4 or 5 minutes.

Any "new" ideas?

It takes a few minutes to register. If you cleared the code 3 times then the problem presists. Why not just change the sensor. Its a start.

Why not diagnose it instead of throwing money at a problem.

From what I've read and what the dealer says, I must take off the intake manifold and plenum(not sure what that is) to get to the sensor.

I understand the parts, the sensor and harness, are next to nothing to purchase, but it's 3 hours labor to remove the intake manifold according to dealer.

I would love to JUST replace it, but it's not cheap.

Thanks Spoon, but I have PCMScan, so clearing the codes is costing me nothing more than my original investment.


So, if anyone has a super cool way to get the the knock sensor on my 03 acccord V6, that would be great. Or any other helpful ideas.

i was referring to the guy saying just to throw a sensor at it. yeah thats a bitch to get to.

Ok cool, do you have any other recommendations on how to diagnose this more accurately?

The only thing I found on ISIS was the thing about rodents like Phootbag said.

Its a simple sensor so its either a new sensor or a wire is chewed either way you need to remove the intake to diagnose, I personally have never seen a knock sensor go bad so my vote is for a chewed wire. ALso if your light comes on 4 to 5 mins everytime then I would say its a hard fault, So as stated before you need to remove the intake

If the wire were completely chewed through the DTC would return as soon as the key were turned. If the wire were PARTIALLY chewed through, the DTC may not set until you drive the car and hit a bump or turn left, etc... A visualy inspection should be all that is needed. If you have a small mirror you do not need to remove the intake manifold to inspect.

Do you have a brief description of the location or possibly a diagram of where the knock sensor is under the intake.

Also make sure your a/c drain is not clogged. I saw a car a few years back where the drain clogged and water got inside of the ECU and cooked it causing that code.

The sensor is near cylinder # 5 under the intake manifold. ( middle cylinder closest to front of vehicle ). The sensor sub-harness connector is by the power steering pump on the side closest to the front of the vehicle ( near cylinder # 4 ).

There is an updated subharness from Honda. It has a "rodent resistant" sleeve over the harness. It even has little pictures of dead mice on it.

Thanks for the diagram 808 (i was born on Maui, raised in Kailua)....

I will do a visual examination, but it's looking like I will need to take this to the dealer to get fixed.

the knock sensor on my 2000 honda civic came on. the shop tested and reset the sensor. it came back on the next day so they did more testing and ended up replacing the sensor. On the drive home that night the light came on again with the same knock sensor code. they looked at it again today checked all the wires/sensor and couldn't find any problem. They are now saying we need to replace the whole ecm. just wondering if you can think of anyother solutions?
