Default 2006 Accord Steering Wheel Audio Controls

Hello.. new owner accord 06 lx and first post. The accord I just bought does not have the steering wheel audio controls. Anyone know if it is possible get the controls installed? Can you get the factory buttons and install them in or is it more complicated than that? (eg would you have to put in the wiring, etc.)

I believe only the EX's came with that (Premium Sound System) and probably more trouble than its worth to swap it onto yours (would require running wires/etc as I dont believe they use the same harness)

Yeah I think it's an EX-only feature (6-cd changer or nav system.) It's just tempting because the panel where the controls should go looks like it could be removed.

I've heard of people buying head units with remotes, then taping the remote to the steering wheel.

I would never do it, very tacky in my opinion, but it is an option.

I suppose that's an option.. seems like it would get a little ugly trying to get a head unit in the strange custom shape of the current radio though. Probably not worth the effort/expense.

The kit is a $150 item, plus the cost of the radio.

But the radio can be pretty much anything you want and there are some great $150 to $200 head units out there. Do it so that you can get a great head unit and play .mp3s, .aacs, whatever, not so you can tape a remote control to your steering wheel.

Speaking of head units, I picked up a new head unit for my '95 Camry this summer, this head unit has a USB port in front. I just load whatever onto a flash drive and plug it directly into the radio - very convenient. I mainly download podcasts onto the flash drive then listen to them while commuting to work.

You CAN, but i've seen similar attempts with nav and audio systems in other cars, and the wiring is such a hassle and you're often without instructions, plus the parts are so expensive. It just ends up not being worth it for most people.

The answer of that will be provided tomorrow I promise.
I have 2006 LX Accord, but the Audio System in it is Premium (Digital Climate Control and 6-in-dash).
On my steering wheel, I have only the Cruise Control, I went to a junk yard today, and brought a full steering wheel without the airbag, but it has both Audio and Cruise controls.
What I intend to do tomorrow is change the whole steering wheel and try!

So, will let you know tomorrow.
Sami
Note: Still need to make the "Outside" temperature on my odometer work, but unfortunately, couldn't find Celsius degrees accessory for it (I live outside USA). Anyone can help?

It didn't work .
I plugged it as it is (Cruise + Audio) into my white female plug under the airbag, and tested it but the radio didn't response!
Looks like there is more connection to be made somewhere.

Hi Again

It did WORK this time:

Just run 2 wire from the back of the Radio to the Audio Control Unit on the wheel, passing by of course the steering wheel "black turning ring" connections.

Hope it will works with you.

Thank you
