Check engine light code P420
2010 Honda Accord EX that I just purchased in August with 81k miles was throwing this code in October. A week later, the car beginning backfiring and then would not run at all. My husband took the cats out, and both of them were in pieces and had literally exploded. I even had pieces in my exhaust pipe. We had the cats replaced, and drove it for a month when the car started running awful again and would just shut off or not start at all. Took it to Honda (it is a certified Honda) and turns out I had a short in the wiring harness and it needed to be fixed. Fast forward to March, my car is now throwing the P420 code again... do the cats really need to be replaced again? The service manager at the Honda dealership is also a total dick to me and talks to me like I'm an idiot. So it makes me NOT want to go back there. The O2 sensors were already replaced as well. Any help or advice would be great.

Re: Check engine light code P420
techs and service managers are 2 different beasts. see if you can talk to the tech(s) who worked on your car get their input may need further troubleshooting but I have never seen where you replace a cat with an oem Honda one and it go bad again more than likely there is more to that short or it shorted else where.
