stalling 2004 CRV *fixed*
hey, same engine as all 04-07 2.4l+ accord 4cyls...
38000 miles.
this vehicle stalls only when hot. it's intermittently when you are sitting in stop and go traffic(0-1mph) and you lightly apply the throttle(no more than .70v if you know what that means). the engine will sometimes stumble and recover and other times just flat out stall(as quickly as if you were to shut the engine off normally).
accelerating at a faster rate will 'bypass' this stalling condition. however, no breaks in the tps voltage are found, it never dips to 0v or anything, just a very solid steady .49v-1.0v (and all the way to 4.49v as well)
btw - .70v is equal to this: your foot resting on the accelerator pedal and pressing it down a millimeter or two.
fuel is ok, normal 89 octane, no water or alcohol.
iacv is new.
no misfires or dtcs.
no accidents.
no visual wiring damage.
fuel system cleaning performed(induction, liquid drip, gas additive - no change)
i have 5 high speed snapshots of the data list when it's happening and nothing appears out of the ordinary. techline is stumped so far, will get back to me on monday.
any ideas? i want to come to work with a vengence!

Who have you been speaking with at Techline? Ohio or California?
Call back and ask to speak with Robert Hall. He has 30 years of tech experience in the techline group.

Re: stalling 2004 CRV (hilltopgraphics)
I know there has been alot of TB replacements on them. They usually have a dtc of some sort i believe. I haven't personally had one come in with the problem. I believe it may be a butterfly motor control problem.

This may seem like a silly question but I didn't see it in your list so I'll ask. Have you tried reflashing the ECM? We've had several of that generation CR-Vs where a simple reflash has cured all kinds of oddball problems.
I do agree that most of the TB issues I've seen have had a DTC.

Re: stalling 2004 CRV (someone else)
yeah, there was a pcm reflash for 02-03 for intermittent stalling, but there are no updates for the 04..
i've done a few tb myself, but only for a tps code.
update: turns out the VTC system is malfunctioning. VTC is variable timing control. its a separate system from Vtec. it controls the actual timing of the intake camshaft itself, thus affecting valve timing in relation to the crank.
the VTC CMP command(computer target) and CMP control(actual actuator) should be very close if not exactly the same. on this car when it would stall the CMP command would be i.e. .5 degrees and the CMP control would be over 30 degrees!!!!!!!!
i ordered a VTC solenoid to start with, since the actuator is part of the camshaft(need to remove the timing CHAIN to replace it!!!! lets hope the solenoid is just sticking and i don't need to tear apart the engine..
the solenoid is easy to access right in the middle of the front of the head.

Your post did remind me of a car a friend and tech had at his dealer. Same type of problem with no codes. I'll have to call tomorrow and see if he recalls if there was a discrepancy with the VTC readings but the root cause turned out to be a stretched timing chain.

Re: stalling 2004 CRV (p10hlm)
goodwill since it's at 38,000 miles (only .8 labor!! GRR HONDA)
turns out it was the vtc solenoid. after replacement the vtc command and vtc control matched up again. no more stalling
