Yes or No

Re: Yes or No
Well I'm reading something about transmission problems with the automatics? And just the fact that the v6 has a belt and not a chain. If the belt breaks does it wreck the valves?
Is the transmission issues a recall item??

Re: Yes or No
Any help you can give me guys would be appreciated. I've pretty much made up my mind that'll I'll buy the car if it drives good and checks out. Thats right, haven't seen it live yet, but it's pretty much fits the discription of what I want.

Re: Yes or No
I have an 03 V6 sedan. Yes, there was a recall. The recall (jet kit) was installed on my transmission right at 15k miles. I have 66k miles now, and haven't had any problems with it. I change out 3 quarts of transmission fluid every 15k miles, and changed the filter for the first time at 60k miles. I'm trying to keep the transmission as clean inside as possible. How many miles does this car have, was the fluid changed, what condition the fluid is in, how hard has it been driven, and how it operates now, would be questions I would ask. I don't want to scare you away from the car, but I want you to be informed. I love my car, and it has not cost me a dime in repairs yet, but I take good care of it, and don't abuse it.

Re: Yes or No
I would never let a timing belt stop me from buying a car. Just have it changed every 105,000 miles or 8 years and you'll be fine.
Too many people get a false sense of security with timing chains. They aren't all wine and roses; chains have their problems too.
So does this "Jet Kit" solve the problems with the tranny?
Most of the failed transmissions I've seen thus far had a jet kit installed.
The only way to avoid a V6 with potential transmission problems is to buy a late '05 or newer car, since the transmission design flaw issues weren't fully resolved until mid-2005. That's not to say that the transmission will never go bad, but the likelihood is much lower.
Honda is still goodwilling out-of-warranty V6 transmissions if the mileage is reasonable and the customer is vocal enough.

For whatever that's worth.
Yes, the big J motor V6 has a belt. But it's not like they have a reputation for breaking.
The current Honda recommendation is to replace the belt at 105,000 miles.
It's important enough that I would probably have it done at a dealer even though the complete service for everything that goes with the 105,000 mile service is probably going to put you around $1,000.
It's not like these cars need much in the way of maintenance, and personally I think that spend that kind of money when your car hits 105K miles is not that bad. There isn't much maintenance other than periodic oil changes until you start piling up the miles.
