Weird CEL problem
2005 Accord EX. If the engine is kept under 2000 RPM before the temp gauge reads normal operating temp everything is fine. If I rev over 2000 before engine warms up the CEL come on and car is in limp mode, wont go over 2500 RPM. Pulled CEL code and it was something about the VTEC actuator not engaging.
Weird thing is if the CEL does come on, once the car is warm I can just turn it off and start it back up and limp mode goes away. And if I do keep it under 2000 initially it never comes on in the first place. So what should I do? Replace the VTEC solenoid?

Re: Weird CEL problem
First off, when trying to diagnose a vtec issue always start by checking your oil level, low oil pressure will cause the cel to come on. What was the actual code that was stored?

Re: Weird CEL problem
Not sure its been months since I pulled it. Just been keeping revs low so it doesn't happen. If I forget though it will still happen so it wasn't some one time thing.
Oil levels good, I do most of my own maintenance and always keep on top of fluid levels.
On another note, when it's 100 degrees outside this does not happen, is it possible that it has something to do with the temp of the oil. Sorry if thats a dumb question.
I'll go to oreillys next time it turns on and get the code.

Re: Weird CEL problem
The code might still be stored in the pcm even without the cel being on. I would go check to see if you can retrieve the code.
It's possible if there actually is a oil circulation problem that oil temp might effect the issue, oil will be thinner at high temps, which could alleviate the problem. But right now that is just speculation without knowing what dtc was stored.
