Quality of 7th gens accord. How good?
Can someone comment on the quality of 7th gen honda accords, vs 6th gen, vs 8th gen?
We're looking into buying a 7th gen 2003 automatic EX-L with 50k miles on it. Any universal problems with 7 gen? Thanks!!!

The V6's still don't have the greatest reputation for automatic transmissions holding up. The other issue is on the V6 models they are known for having the spark plug come loose on the #5 cylinder and if you don't catch it in time can cost you a motor. (What happened to me.) Several months after I had it happen I stumbled on a thread on another Accord forum that talks about this issue and there were many many people with the exact same problem on the exact same cylinder.
Other than that these are very solid cars. They are actually one of my favorite cars that I've had. Especially if you get the V6 with the 6 speed manual. (I'm not a huge fan of the 4 cylinder in these as it's very under powered).

great cars, good ride, decent gas mileage for a heavier car. The engine is quite underpowered but then again this car wasn't meant for anything crazy.
BUT there is a great aftermarket, so if anything needs improvement there are tons of quality parts out there.
Also the paint like a lot of Hondas is thin and soft, so be careful with that.
I have an 06 and love it, great looking and super reliable

I had a 2006 Accord, and 2010 Accord.
If you ask me 5 years ago, I would say the 7th Gen Accord was the best Honda I ever owned. And that goes back to 1988. My 2006 was the most trouble free, and perfectly built Honda, when they actually try to build a car better than the last. (8th gen is where they started cost cutting).
The only think I can pick on was the ring on the radio button. It was painted, and it started to come off over time with touch.
At this point today, I'm not sure how to answer your question because we are looking at a 10+ year old car. So I would view it no different than a Dodge Caliber. It all depends on how well it was taken care of during the past 10 years.

Now keep in mind, mine was the V6 6 speed. It got great gas mileage, had enough power to be fun to drive, handled well, and has been pretty problem free. I like it enough that when I needed a motor I ended up putting another one in the car even though I'd already replaced the car. Now, having test driven a few of the 4 cylinder versions, I don't think it's nearly as fun to drive, but it should still be a decent car. I'd planned to upgrade to an 8th gen, but after spending some time in one all of my desire to have one went away. I kept wishing I was back in my 7th gen, so I kept my 06 as my DD up until last year.
With this said I also agree that it's a 10 + year old car. You should expect to have problems out of it. So while they are good cars, they probably will still have parts break on them. Mine is kind of getting to that point. Up until now the only things I've really had go bad were the A/C compressor twice (first time a shop did it and used a Four Seasons part. This time I did it and used a Denso one.) and the motor. The rest was regular wear and tear items. It's now getting to the point where it needs axles, I had to compliance bushings, etc. Stuff is just getting worn out from it being old.

Ive had an 06 se 4cyl auto for about 70k now, got it around 35 and at about 112k now. So far so good. Only regular maintenence. I think the k24 does perfectly fine hauling the "tank" around. I drive like a granny (according to wife) becuae i try and maximize mpg. Avg about 28 in the summer while ac runs constant, can push as high as 31 w/o ac. About 65% highway.
Best factory stereo ive had in a honda too... just added aux hookup myself...

do the 4cyls also have that power steering catching on fire issue?
deff stay away from V6 automatic though, they're weak and unreliable. Honda says if you don't apply more than 1/4 throttle while traveling up hill it will break.
