Default Using the neutral

Because an automatic trans produces motion by friction, would it be safe to say by reducing excess friction one would lengthen the life of a trans? I put my trans in neutral at red lights, I coast to red lights in neutral(if incline permits) and the likes. Is this ill advised, any negative results from this action?

The torque converter is not engaged (slipping) at a stop and there is very little to no fluid pressure to the clutches or drums. I see no benefit in putting the car in neutral. If anything you may wear out the TR sensor and or any moving parts in the gear selector more quickly with your practice.....
