Default Transmission replacement

My transmission blew up yesterday. It's in the shop right now - waiting for the quote. It looks like they will have to replace the transmission. It's 2005 Accord Coupe EX-v6 with 120.000 miles on it. It Has been driving great until yesterday. Do you guys think it is worth investing into new tranny? Or should I think of getting new car?

It's still worth it to replace the transmission whether you buy a new car or not. If you do not intend to keep it, replace the transmission and sell it; it will be easier to sell and you will probably get more for the car.

For the replacement transmission, either go with a used transmission, a Honda rebuilt transmission, or new. It is not recommended to have the transmission rebuilt by transmission shops, as most don't know how to properly rebuild a Honda transmission.

redbull-1, that's what I am going to do. Just received a call from the shop - their specialty is transmission repair. The torque converter is bad + the motor mount is broken (unrelated to transmission issue). They told me they will replace the converter with some oem part - which is supposed to be better then original Honda part, because it actually fixes the problem that these transmissions have. They quoted me for $2500 - $2800.

I am currently faced with the same problem. I considered buying a car, but the dealer only offered me $3000.00 for my car. It's a 2003 Accord EX with 130k miles. I am no longer considering buying a new car.

Hello I have a 2005 Honda Accord EX V6 and my transmission went out at only 80k, When I orig bought the car after only two months I heard a whistling noise and was relentless about taking it in to honda but they kept telling me it was nothing. Wow you spend 30k for a car and a whistling noise is nothing, then after 6 months they said it was the transmission and replaced it. Now at 80k they heard a whistling noise and are replacing the tranny but I have to pay. How can I tell if they actually changed the first transmission while under warranty and do you think Honda will absorb these costs after job done and I have paid out of my pocket?

Replace the transmission, and then sell the car and buy a new one...

I've sourced a few different transmissions over the years from back when Honda did not have their re-mans available on a customer pay basis. One of the best I've ever dealt with is H&A Transmissions out of California. They do a very good quality rebuild with very good warranty options.

I have an 03 Accord EX V6. Transmission crapped out at 132K. I had my car at the dealer for a week. At the most, they would give me only $1500 for a trade-in and that's probably only because I have a friend that works at Honda. I decided that I didn't want a car payment so I just had it fixed. We'll see how it goes until the warranty runs out.
