Re: Timing Chain 2005 Accord
On a pilot that is believable especially if you do new tensioner with every belt. But that would be jamming and still hard to do. I always get a little bigger smile when I see the job is a pilot. I could not agree with you anymore about the right tools making a hard job easy.

Re: Timing Chain 2005 Accord
I have a 2005 Honda Accord 2.4L 4 cylinder with 5speed manual transmission still running like a dream at 203K miles. I can't say I've ever had a problem with any of the 4 cylinder v tech engines by Honda. However, I've heard some horror stories about the v6.
Any thoughts?

Pretty sure you are talking about the timing belt replacement. It's standard practice to also replace the water pump at that time (easy to get to / when changing cam timing belt and tensioners), and some people also change the oil seals at front of crankshaft and and camshaft ( I might or might not on first 100,000 mile maintenance / yet would change such seals for sure if I saw any sign of a seals leaking oil!) ...
for DIYs, I've notice some well made step by step documentation on internet, including on You Tube. When I do a cam belt, after finding and lining up the marks on camshaft pull and crank pulley (harmonic balancer) to where those marks should be ... I mark the belt and pulleys with a white marker ..a the specific contact next to lining up marks (giving in a service manual for this job) ... and also put arrow on belt twords front of engine. ... then I transfer the marks from old belt to new belt , ... making sure to match teeth counts of both belts exactly. .. this provides a sure way to put your time belt on right the first time. One tooth or rib off on a timing belt is a big headache time suck... that will not let engine run plus require bust down and do it over. ... My two cents.
Retired Bill ...owned a mechanic shop for VWs and the Japanese Auto in the 80s / for preventive maintenance plus engine rebuilds.

Re: Timing Chain 2005 Accord
I stand corrected. Thought I knew but... just looked up parts supply for 2005 Accord and see timing chain or timing chain kits. If I had to or next time I have to do a timing chain: I still think white marking chain and sprockets after getting all in proper position, and transferring marks from old chain to new chain ... keep track of direction chain is moving/ front vs back back of engine position ... is still a great idea to make sure the timing chain job is done right the first time. One tooth off is a time suck.
