Talk me out of or into buying a 2003 Honda Accord v6
I've been considering a b swap into my Civic LX of late but just recently I found a pretty good deal on a 2003 Honda Accord with a V6. I need something that gets about 30mpg in about 75%/25% highway/city driving but I do like the power of the Accord.
Is the Accord a much better car or will I miss my Civic.
Thanks,
Jason

get the accord. i have the 2001 v6 accord as a daily. its great. i also have a civic too. ill be using the unichip to tune the accord. the tune is not to really get huge amounts of power out of a stock car but rather to get better gas mileage and a little more power. curently i have tested and recorded im at average of 22 mpg of 75% highway and 25%city. i expect to be at 27-30 average mpg when im done. stock accord. no aftermarket parts.

What is your definition of "better" and why is this in the Civic tech forum? I'm sure there are car comparison sites out there as well as stats on every car ever made. Lemme know if you need assistance locating a few.
75mpg? Really?

I couldn't exactly fing a better section for it. So why not ask those that own a similar model as myself and those of which may own or have owned an Accord?
I've read up on the Accord and it's a fairly quick car especially for it's class capable of a low to mid 14 second quarter mile with a hopefully 30mpg if I don't push the gas pedal to low to the floor.
If I do a B20 swap into my Civic I expect to have possibly a low 15 second and if I'm lucky a high 14 second car. On the other hand I think I'll have a better handling car with better mpg in the Civic but I would like to read opinions about this from others.
I wish I could find an Accord with 240hp that got 75 mpg but I meant that as a percentage of driving mix.

I'm not real sure how much different the 2003 and 2001 are but I tink the 2003 was a new platform and I think it had a new engine with a 5 speed automatic and a 6 speed manual...I need the automatic so my wife can drive the kids somewhere if she needs a different car than her own.

I have an 03 V6 Accord, and I certainly can't talk you out of getting one. I don't do a lot of highway driving, but if you drive the speed limit on the highway, you can easily get 30mpg. I get about 25mpg around town. The automatic transmissions are known to have problems, just to let you know about it. I haven't had any transmission problems, now at 103k miles, but I don't abuse it, and I take good care of it. If I didn't like the car, I wouldn't still have it after 9 years. The clearcoat is peeling, so it doesn't look so great anymore, but she still runs as good as ever. I've never had a civic, so I can't really compare the two for you.

That's the thought that's been stuck in the back of my mind but I had hopes it might be a fun car to drive though my Civic needs some suspension and a tad more power it's still a somewhat fun car to drive in stock form. I suspose I will start my budget upgrades to the suspension and go for a b series engine in the next few months or so.

I'm going to talk you out of it because you mentioned MPG and did NOT mention the need for space or a larger car.
-The V6 accord have a history of AT problems.
-You can get good MPG on the V6 if you been good. When you are not, the V6 can drink gas. Civic will be more consistant.
-Gas prices are on the up, when it comes back down, the average will still be up. It will cost less to drive a Civic.
- V6 uses timing belt. If it has not been changed, you will need to.
- Civic cost less than the Accord to start. So for the same $$$, you'll get a newer Civic, less miles on the clock.
I'm not against the Accord, I own a V6. I own two of them.

It was on Craiglist for $5900 or so. I've since decided to stick with my Civic. It's not as spacious as I would like but it does have 4 doors (back doors for my kids) and gets 30+ mpg no matter how it's driven. I'm content as long as I can do the B20z swap with automatic in the near future.
I just bought some SI wheels for it tonight which was on my want to do list as far as making me want to keep it. Now hopefully the shimmy in the ride from that bent steel wheel will be gone plus I hated those wheel covers but at least the lug nuts held them on instead of them flying off and hitting someone.
