SRS DTC Code 83
Hello. I have a 2006 Honda Accord LX (4 Cyl) and the SRS light recently came on. I initially reset it to see if maybe it had been inadvertently tripped and would stay off. It blinked twice during the reset but came back on. Jumping the 4 and 9 pins on the OBD2 port, I was able to pull an DTC 83 code, which corresponds to "Internal failure of SRS unit", at least on the definitions I found online.
Digging a little deeper, I found a Service Manual for the 7th gen accord. It had a trouble shooting procedure for DTC 83 which I followed and after running through it seems to point to a failure (no signal) of the Passenger Front Weight Sensor. I haven't found any DIY writeups for this job and though I do 99% of my own car work, I'm not sure I should attempt it. I believe the sensor is actually in the seat cushioning. Anyway, I called up a dealer and without actually taking a look at it, he gave me a ballpark of $750.
I'm dying here because I never pay anyone to do that much work on my car, but I know this is part of the SRS system and I don't want the airbag(s) to not deploy if we get in an accident. I'm almost resigned to the fact that I'll be shelling out the cash to some dealer I've hardly even been to. Any suggestions, tips, or thoughts before I head into the dealer tomorrow? You guys are my last hope.
