Shift Cable Adjustment
On my Accord EXV6 Sedan the shift cable seems tight and sometimes hard to put from park to Drive. And also when I put the transmission from park to Drive It shifts some what rough. I have figured out that in order to shift it out of park smoother I lift up just a little on the gear selector and as I press the button and move the gear selector and in result It shifts smooth out of park and in to drive and other gears. My question is should I adjust the shift cable. since I suspect its out of adjustment.

Re: Shift Cable Adjustment
Well it couldn't hurt anything to at least check it.
There are also some bushings in there - kind of depends on which type of shifter you have, it seems Honda had two types in these for some reason (they just say A and B in the service manual)?

Re: Shift Cable Adjustment
Thanks for the info yes I have seen several different Gear selector assembles it has in my Factory service manual. I have to get the correct size pin or drill bit to put in the selector to adjust it. its cool to see a square bolt in there like the manual illustrates. on the shift cable. my guess Its possible that the dealership put it on there to tight. Cause the dealership had to put a transmission in there as part of the recall. Maybe they where in a hurry to put the cable back in there.

Re: Shift Cable Adjustment
The shifter being hard to remove from Park is usually caused by parking on an incline with the weight of the car pushing against the parking pin. Since my rock driveway has some dips and bumps, I will usually put the transmission in neutral, let go of the foot brake, let the car settle, then put the shift lever in Park. Setting the parking/emergency brake, before putting the shift lever into Park works too, if parked on an incline, but I hardly ever use the parking/emergency brake.

Re: Shift Cable Adjustment
Thanks BLKFLSH I'll check to see if parking on a incline does make it hard to shift form park. I will check that first Before I assume it is in fact the shift cable is out of adjustment.
